* requires a PC capable of reading & writing to floppy disks in single density mode.

If the disk read/writing methods aren't working for you, then XFER (serial port transfer) is a good alternative.  What's more, Chris Richardson of 8BS sells the necessary cable required by the XFER software. The downside (obviously) is that an actual BBC is required for the transfer process!
